Wang So (Jang Hyuk) is the Prince of Goryeo. He had a lonely childhood, due to his cursed fate. As he grew up, he realized his talent to become a King. Wang So looks bright, but he has a wounded mind. One day, he meets Shin Yool (Oh Yeon-Seo), who is the Last Princess of Balhae. She was born with the fate of becoming the light for another country. Because of her fate, she faces death. Through a one night marriage, Wang So and Shin Yool become connected and grow to love each other.

Oh Yeon Seo so beautiful and precious, and gave a great performance as well! Great chemistry between them in this series. It was a great cast of characters and their performances was excellent as well! The plot was great! I’ve seen over 98 series up to now, and have not seen a plot like this. Funny, action, romance and sadness, but for some of us, it was a good ending but not for others. Will definitely watch it again. Loved it!

Park MinDec 09 2023 8:19 am Ignore the ending, the prologue itself was appalling and distasteful enough to eliminate my expectations despite the drama having Jang Hyuk on deck. Speaking of which, once again, Jang Hyuk is playing the same character from The Slave Hunters (2010), if you've seen that one then you know what's up. Characters, while initially intriguing, suffered from inconsistent development. The pacing felt uneven, with moments of rushed storytelling followed by prolonged and uneventful sequences, disrupting the overall momentum of the show. The whole poison plot was painful to tolerate and sit through. The story was so terrible it just kept getting worse with every episode. The last 4 episodes in particular were poorly planed, marking them as the worst part of the drama. Once again, Jang Hyuk wasn't enough to save this drama although he was the only highlight.

It was overacted some of the dialogue just didn't make sense I mean when premier Wang makes the statement "you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube"you have to know the script got away without anybody really glossing over it I was laughing at some of it although it was supposed to be serious. Overacted underwhelmed and cannot compare with the rest of the great historical dramas Korea has produced

There's no doubt I loved the ending to the point where we see Shin Yule doesn't die, I thought great ending, but the abrupt switch where she says she's leaving her only love Prince Soe, my mouth dropped, "what the...?". But I was ok, Shin Yule (I loved Oh Yeon-Seo here, Jang Bori, and Here Comes Mr Oh)was terrific. The all time worse kdrama ending was Youth of May where FL dies, I still can't over that one. Although I liked Jumong better, this was good...there's laughter (early episodes) and tears (later episodes), worth watching.

I think the ending may be feasible considering the female lead is a fictional person among real historical persons.

Those idiots sway and swing the camera from one side to another every second! They focus on one eye or half a face and then swing the camera to the opposite direction!!! They focus on half of an ear thousands of times, and the viewer has no clue whose half an ear or an eye it is. So this drama is about EARS! Every second they zoom in creating a full screen blurring picture so you can't see anything. And I am not mentioning the breaking up sound, which is like low tone screeching from a deep well or a tunnel! What are trying to create???!!! The screenplay that makes a viewer dizzy in 5 min and quit watching? So you got it! I quit! Send the director and shooting team my Condolences! This Drama Is A Failure! Hugh Failure!

It’s just beautiful and amazing and..sad.. yeah the ending was so sad.. after all those crying moments I thought Wang so and Shin yool deserved a happy ending.. but real love stories doesn’t have happy endings..coz they simply doesn’t end.. although it’s only a drama, I could feel the love, the hurt, the pain.. all of these emotions were given their justice.. it was so amazing that I could feel in my heart they were just real!!thanks to those amazing actors who acted on this drama esp Jang Hyuk! One of the best historical drama for me..

My favourite scene: when wang wook said that: In the line of tradition a First marriage of prince without permission or blessing of king was a death sentence to the couple. veegemdollNov 05 2016 6:56 am I'm still on Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo depression and I came across this series. Funny how Lee Joon Gi and Jang Hyuk played the same role. I wonder who's write-up is more credible though, the characters' roles in history are so different in both series. Could Moon Lovers be more accurate since they had a license to history? Will I believe so, Wang So's/Gwangjong's story in Moon Lovers is a lot closer to the history books.

Although the ending was okay, there was too much of a gap and sense of missing something for me. Maybe it needed another few episodes to further develop the ending. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this drama. Great characters and great acting. I'll have to give it some more thought, but this is probably about #5 on my historical list (Empress Ki, Prince of Lan Ling, SungKyungKwan Scandal, Chuno, Shine or go Crazy...). Good work to everyone involved!

I feel the ratings this drama is less. The 9th episode still gives me goosebumps when I watch it again. I agree that they should have made the last two episodes more actionable , probably the budget was in question. I recommend everyone to watch this drama and support it to extreme extent.

AjAug 14 2015 10:31 pm Jang Hyuk is warm, funny, romantic, charismatic, and simply wonderful in one of his best performances. Now of course there are the too-often used KDrama stereotypes of evil, obsession, triangles, class struggles, etc. but what makes this one so interesting (as KDrama has been exploring in several series) is the gentle exploration of gender identity and love being the recognition of the kindred spirit despite confusions. The two leads are extraordinary and have terrific chemistry. The finale is not a typical one, but is satisfying in the context of deep love, independence, responsibility, separate paths reuniting, and the promise of Fate. Beautiful series.
bluelysiaJul 14 2015 12:07 pm (spoiler alert) I really love this drama, and while I have known that Jang Hyuk is a great actor, it brings me light for Oh Yeonseo, who is also brilliant for her character <3 For the ending, because of I had read that so many people dissatisfied with the ending, I thought Shin Yool will be dead, which thank godness, she didn't die!!!! that alone is enough to make me happy because all the time, I have prepared my heart for her death LOL.. she maybe not become the queen, but I think that's what best for both of them.. Shin Yool must be happy for living her life to the fullest after succesfully escaping her "coldness" death.. and I believe at the end, Wang So and Shin Yool reunited at heavens.. so beautiful and good drama!

WeirdosMay 29 2015 3:28 am Hmm. I remember I watched Iljimae a couple of years back, and that series by far had the worst ending. I felt as if someone had just pressed the "Off" button on the remote control without warning. It truly felt like being left alone on an open shore with nowhere to turn and all lights turned off in a split-second. So, some of you might be right that somehow, some of the best series are suddenly wrapped and cut short all too quickly. Most likely due to a shortage on funding to keep it going. Even though one could easily read between the lines and visualize the narrators intended ending in Shine or Go Crazy - it would still be nice to be given the actual footage on screen since this clearly was not an open-ending. Say, a mere two days more of filming would have wrapped this one up for good indeed. That really would have been perfect :)
On a different note, most of these series are either too melancholic where the hero (sometimes along with the heroinne) dies, or - they live happily (clichélike) ever after ... which in reality is very unlikely. If you like those kind of series - then stay away from this one and choose some Hollywood teen-chick-flick instead.
That being said, I have to admit that the story was so enticing that I felt a bit sad seeing Wang So age to an old man that quickly. Especially since his final speech as a King (the final battle scene) really gave me goosebumps. Nonetheless, dragging the story for longer (how he was as a King etc.) would definitely have ruined the entire script.
And the reason why I emphasized on this series not being a fantasy was for this reason only - that people shouldn´t believe the IMDB or other websites who claim it´s a "fairytale". It really is not. The series has a strong seriousness to it. The laws, principles, codes and honours that the Kings Emperors and Nobles lived by in ancient civilizations were a serious thing, and it was extremely well portrayed in this serie. Prince Wang So, his brother - the King, the Princess from Balhae - none of them (despite their royalty) could do whatever they wanted "just" because they were royal. We see these kind of things in cultures in some parts of the world even today. People who are at a crossroad and are forced to make a choice - either to their own selfish gain, or for "the greater good". Keeping and maintaining your identity in life means you have to take responsibility. The greater the name, the greater responsibility - hence (in often cases) the greater the sacrifice. Arranged marriages as a sacrifice for the "greater good" is a pretty common thing even today. And whether your sacrifice (of being with the one you love) is an act of heroism (as in the case of Wang So), or an act of cowardice (according to modern thinking) is of course up for debate. I personally loved Wang So´s choice of shining as a King, but going crazy for his love. It gave the story more depth as it was more realistic. :)
So, in overall - I was happy with the ending. Well done and a special kudos to the actor that played Wang So. He´s great.

So she can go be super-business woman rather than helping him heal an entire nation. This ending is almost as bad as "The Gu Family Book". This must be a cultural thing I don't understand as a Westerner: the idea that people are not allowed to enjoy a happy ending together after earning it. It was so disappointing to spend 23 episodes on this and wind up with nothing but some kind of vague promise of meeting in the afterlife. Makes me want to go back to watching network TV. :(
CgTMay 20 2015 7:36 pm We watched it every Monday & Tuesday on LA 18.3 : Very entertaining for the whole family. That's what I appreciate about most of the KDrama we've seen so far; even kids can watch and learn something about a another culture, customs & traditions especially with period/historical drama. Very good production and all the actors did an excellent job: starting with the our favorite, Jang Hyuk ( excellent acting : my husband & I enjoyed watching him team up with Jang Na Ra) , the ladies: Kebong (funny and pretty) , Yeowan (Lee Ha Nui's very convincing yet not hysterical acting! She's really good and pretty also!), Baekmyo ( fiercely loyal : we really like her!). The other male actors were also very good in portraying their respective roles: the veteran & character actors were excellent in their supporting roles especially the villain. Prince Wook was cute but so was Gilbok ! Costume (the hair pieces look natural) & set design were also commendable.
It's a happy ending but sad at the same time; we wish it was stretched just a little bit more. It seems like someone pressed fast forward to get it over and done with. All the same, thanks for making it .

He needs to focus on this first before love.. And Gaebong knows this that is why she has to temporarily vanish.. It was a happy ending i should say. This is still one of my favorite drama.. I love the story and the cast..

I found the continuity lacking. - dropped the ball - Jolted me out of the fictive dream. And the ending - well - I wasn't at the writer's conference but had I been - Shin Yool having sought the Prince of Goryeo for years, finally the way is cleared and she rides off into the sunset - her back to everything she wanted. And the Prince - second verse same as the first. Heads up, writers. Why wouldn't the vanquished wife - Yeo Won - pack up and leave in disgrace with the lover/shadow she had on the side? The law of first royal marriages having been repealed...(fit right in with the disclaimer) let the lovers lead the country to a glorious renewal? Is that so hard? It's all there. Just one more word - a word of praise for Kim Sun-Young, who played the guardian of the Princess of Balhae - Baek-Myo I tip my hat to you, lady. Magnificent job.

I saw him in Chuno and have loved him ever since. I do not like the final 20 minutes of this drama. I think the writer could have taken creative liberties, since there always was a disclaimer that it didn't follow true historical events. Since the writer/director decided to end the love story so terribly (in my opinion), the least the writer/director could have done was to spend a little more time on Wang So's coronation ceremony. Highlighting the coronation more than they did could have left somewhat of a celebratory feeling at the end. It has been two weeks since I finished this drama. This is a drama that stands out and is memorable to me because of Jang Hyuk's role. The ending has not made me dislike the drama. I like the first 23 and 1/2 episodes very much. My opinion that the ending is the worst I have ever seen will not change.

The thing I like about this one here is the role of Prince Wang So. The actor who played that role was simply exceptional. He was captivating - and I was very surprised because I have never seen that kind of role being portrayed so impeccably. You could see a red thread throughout the whole series in his characters. He was playing the role of the royal abandoned and exiled son by his father who was the King, the cursed and murderous/traiterous son accused by his mother (and the palace/people), the goofy and carefree commoner who grew up alone in the mountains somewhere, the mysterious but extremely skillfull swordsman, the beggar with no manners, the royal Prince Wang So who the Nobles looked down upon, the brother to the lonely and scared King who he still loves even though the King suspects him for deceiving him and trying to steal the throne, the 'veiling' affectionate character for his nations unfortunate people who suffer daily, and last but not least the finally Heir to the throne as the King who will eventually claim the power back from the corrupted Nobles.
What´s magnificent is that I see this red thread of how loyal, affectionate, stern, determined, strong, full of Royal charisma and passionate character he is in all of these unique roles he portrays. And his signature in all of these are the comforting words- ''That everything will be alright''. Despite the agonizing and painful events that occure throughout the series - when you see him in any of his characters - you strongly feel those words: That everything will be alright. Mindblowing acting and script. The actor didn´t give us one character - he gave us a handful of them - and all of them shared one and same goal. Be with the woman he loves - and take the power from the Nobles and give it back to the people of Goryeo. I watched all 24 episodes mostly because of this actors skills.
As an end quote - most people who didn´t like this series or hated the ending did not fully understand it. The series main genre was not romance for the woman (melodramatic romance) - but rather romance (historical) for the future of the nation of Goryeos existence in lightness - not darkness. However, both romances (woman and nation) were in parallell with one-another. The title: Shine or Go Crazy goes for both. He chose to Shine as a King, but had to go crazy for the woman he loves. That´s a happy realistic ending because his call to be a righteous King for the people was greater than his own happiness with a woman. She asked him - would you leave your throne for me. And he did not answer - which means his love and responsibility for his people and nation was infact greater. If he could have both, then he wouldn´t marry her for the second time - also in secrecy. If she came like that to the palace - without a royal marriage - she would be regarded by the people of the palace as the princess who became his concubine. And that would be sad. Her life would only surroud around his life - she, her goals and dreams would cease to exist. The princess had her goals to achieve just like Wang So did. I do not see this as a sad ending - because he can still see her whenever she comes back.
I still think many here wanted unrealistic stories. Even though this is fictional - it´s not a fantasy series. There is a big difference between the two. There was no magic or unreal things. Everything which happened has or could have happened in some parts of the world back in history. After the King dies - his sons would inheir the throne - so it´s natural to think that his sons with the woman he loves would be illegitimate - and that would bring more pain and jealousy amongst his children. The serie deserves high praise - especially due to the main character, Wang So. :)

The writer could have taken liberties to create a satisfying end, but chose not to. Unless viewers are native South Koreans, they probably do not know Korean history and cannot be expected to look up historical events prior to watching historical dramas. It is great to become educated while watching a drama, but since viewers are probably watching because they like entertainment, it is very understandable why the ending of this drama was disappointing to the majority of viewers. There was no foundation in the drama to prepare viewers for the abrupt, choppy end.
BobbieApr 13 2015 4:07 am Lack of knowledge of Korean history is the main reason behind all the disappointments expressed here in the ending. Most, if not all, historical dramas are based on or around their history.
If you google 'wang so korean history' you would realize that Shin Yool is a fictional character that was created by the writers as one that inspired Wang So to make many changes in the Goryeo period during his rule.
The writers drew us in wonderfully as they portrayed their beautiful relationship. Disappointing ending (for the heart) but an expected one.
Bravo to the writer for their ability to create such a mesmerizing story and evoke such strong emotions among their viewers!
NaeApr 13 2015 1:19 am SMH at all these fans upset Yeo Won became Queen and was by Wang So's side in the end. They can't even accept those 3 children were Wang So and Yeo Won's children. They can't believe Wang So had sex with Yeo Won. They need to face the fact he did. I was not a fan any couple but I did like the characters individually. The hate for Yeo Won is so real. The ending was a little messy because Shin Yool could have stayed but lived outside the Palace. Overall Shine or Go Crazy was Good. All the actors and actresses did an amazing job.
IzzaApr 12 2015 6:33 pm If you gonna watch a historical korean drama,, dont expect for a happy ending because it is always a sad ending,, i love historical and i have already noticed that that's why i dont expect too much for the ending.. and also dont believe in their ratings,, sometimes.. more on actually .. they will rate the drama too high but when u watch it the drama is u know not that good. and sometimes the rating is too low ( there are a times NR ) but the story is great,,,, hmmmmm... just watch it and enjoy but dont expect too much :) and dont tell that it was a wasting of time.. NO NO NO because it is your way to past your time :D . . . . im in the middle of watching this although i read those bad comments about the ending i still want to continue it..

I wished that he starts likeing his evil wife and attracting by her cold character. at least it will be something new in the drama :D

I am puzzled as to why, after so much work to make a great drama, did those in charge decide to end the drama the way they did? The drama was ruined because of the last 20 minutes. Jang Hyuk is talented. I won't regret the hours I spent watching him act. I like all of his work. The way the drama ended is a disappointment. I feel bad for the actors and others who worked hard to make this a great drama. Some poor decisions were made on how to end this drama and subsequently ruined the chance for this to be a good drama.

JCApr 10 2015 3:31 pm I loved this drama so much, really couldn't stop watching it. Already a huge fan of Jang Hyuk so his character was so fun as always. It was great seeing Oh Yeon Seo again after Jang Bori, her acting is amazing and she was so beautiful!
Though I have to agree that the ending felt very lacking and rushed so that was pretty disappointing since the drama did a great job building up both the story and romance. That aside I will still remember this drama as a very memorable journey that I enjoyed very much.

They had to build Yool's brother character making the viewers like him and for them to be together or at least they'll know that they are related, unfortunately the writers decided to just kill his character. Now that was a total disappointment. And the ending? The last 5 mins was a total waste of the viewers time, I don't understand how the writers thought that it's better for them to part ways. Yool spent years to find her lost husband, now that they can finally be together she left him with another woman and broke his heart. Why can't the writers just make the viewers feel light at heart? I mean we've been watching it since episode 1 and eagerly waiting for the next episode week after week. All your efforts go down since episode 1 goes down in the toilet just in 5 minutes. wow this reminds me of HIMYM ending.

One of the best Kdramas I've ever seen....Jang Hyuk is always brilliant and the cast as a whole was top rate. But once again a great drama is ruined by a bad and sloppy ending. South Korea produces some amazing television but for some reason most directors/writers never know how to end the dang show.

One thing i noticed different about this drama is the sets the colors are all jewel tones ,, very very pretty as most historical sets are but I'm really enjoying this one. And the Costumes. I wonder if I am the only one that notices them things.. I would hope not you can see how much care went into it.. As Far as the story Line its one of the bests.. I hope for a happy ending but that rarely happens in a Kdrama with out some kinda sacrificial lamb paying a price.... BUT really good drama And I have watched now over years at least a 150 plus... So I gave it a chance and I'm SO glad I did! Usually the ratings on this site is pretty spot on but now I'm starting to second think them. Usually I base what I watch fully on the ratings but I think I'm going to be more open minded now. Been a while since I enjoyed a drama like this :D

I have watched and enjoyed JHyuk dramas/movies with Jang NaRa and Lee Dae Hae. Hyuk is handsome and talented actor and he's lucky to be paired with these beautiful and talented ladies (and of course having the good production, the excellent job of director, writer, cinematography and what I really appreciate more is the soundtrack/film scoring that makes me really feel the scenes and I have only experienced these wonderful background music with Korean Dramas/movies).
Hope to see Jang Hyuk and Oh Yeon Seo again in a new drama series in the future..

Female characters have strong roles/backgrounds and are smart including the protectors of the kings. Jang Hyuk is stellar as always with his athletic and swordmanship skills. Very talented actor, Jang Hyuk is excellent as always! Overall, this drama is entertaining. I'm gonna watch it 'till the final episode.

Shine is not a heavy historical drama. It just meant to be a romantic comedy, light, funny, and does need to have the set, production, lighting to be perfect for viewers to enjoy it. It just merely want to entertain with all its cheesiness and overly exaggerated love reaction of the female lead. Shine may not be the best but at the end of the day, a lot of viewers are loving it and Shine has the rating to prove it.. You may choose to hate it or love it.. I chose to love it..

This show is trying to combine two great historical dramas into one Conspiracy in the Court and Eight Days, the Mystery of Jeong-Jo’s Assassination with comedy. It's not really working. The end game has to be good because i dont see how Jang Hyuk signed up for this.

panamaFeb 12 2015 12:27 am the story has not been consistent it loses its momentum every now and then may thats why people have been complaining. i dont get the concept of being a hyper happy puppet as a symbolism of a confident person the depiction should be more subtle yes iam talking about the actress she ends up looking like a loonie with those eyes overtly dilated like a deer caught in headlight,the only curiosity ppl have "will he know she is a she and not he......will they kiss again?? when thats all there is to story obviously there is loss of interest as you can gauge from the comments when there are so many drama around with such intriguing plots there are people who will want to invest time in better drama plots !!!!!!

I chose to love him because he is predictable and makes me laugh! I have seen his serious side and excellent fighting skills in previous dramas. So, I know he is not one-dimensional. So far, the script is good, but, not great. I will continue to watch anyway.

Right now, her role means that she is never really 'herself' as a woman, as somebody's wife, ..she is the COO and CFO of the company, she is a drinking partner and teacher to Wang So, she is the unknown princess who is mothered by a emotional albeit loving 'mother/ servant'. I harbor hope that the matter- of- fact way she speaks is reflective of these roles, rather than she is a poor actress mouthing her lines without emotion. In many instances, I like her, when she shows that she is kinda fearless, brave and smart. Sometimes though, I wish that she would not open her eyes so wide, like a deer caught in the headlights.

blcckFeb 05 2015 5:20 am you right bro @Lee...as the stories goes on...the lead actors show how his path change his emotional state of mind...the politic of the story might not be the greatest....i grew up in a manner people surround me ....that they show different manner when they grow up to certain age....its something got to do from their past....this guy...the actor...seems to know how to show that...by his expression of course ....maybe not a lot people don't know what i mean...i know a lot of good actors out there, but he really good at showing that....and the girl...she is pretty...huh...
LeeFeb 05 2015 3:52 am I know the story and parts can just sound a bit silly and unrealistic but there is something very attractive about the character Wang So. His loneliness comes through. He has only one purpose in his life I.e. To avenge his father. Nobody has ever had a conversation about his life or cared for his well being or to encourage him to think of higher purposes and aims except for 'Gaebo'.. The character is intelligent and charismatic except he just behaved according to the people he was with. Anyway, now his apparently idiotic facade is blown amongst his enemies, so it will be interesting to see what is going to happen next. OYS is ok..partly because it is hard to see her disguised as a man with her features and voice. But who knows, she may get better. First time that I am watching Jang Hyuk act and he is very good.. Who else can play this character..stupid, funny, intelligent, charismatic, physical fighter and driven, all rolled into one.
julienFeb 05 2015 2:21 am guessing from the writing style some fangirl or boy is spamming the section with comments......anywayz my honest opinion after watching ep 6 today..the politics in this drama is ver dull not smart enuf,the action scenes such as chasing sword fighting are also not impressive there is a certain amount of discontinuity in scenes they are cut paste and its obvious,jokes right out of 101 and one lame jokes in history of cinema,set and production value below par lighting also not good with only cheap cgi..........chemistry comes when story line is strong right the story has taken sideline or rather very plain.......................its my complete unbiased opinion coz i am fairly new to korean sageuks(having watched tree with deep roots and emperor of sea) though i have watched plenty of great chinese sageuks

k9Feb 04 2015 8:13 pm hahahah...the drama only aired just until 6 ep...long way to go..up to 24....as far i can see...people hate the main actor...instead of the drama......that's why they hate everything...it happen every time...people start to blame everything what that person does when they hate somebody...it happen to me sometimes...but i try to get over it. first i find it very irritating and annoying..about the lead actor kind of having different behavior that other hero actor....hahaha ...if this a way he makes friends with other people...i don't complain much....i see the girl is slowly having fun with this guy...even though that bad-ass seems irritating...i can see through their facial expression....good luck to both of them....

If you really want to see him shine(no pun intended) watch Tree With Deep Roots or Chuno. When he acts silly he's actually doing the same acting he did in Great Ambition. Not sure how his modern kdramas are since i dont watch them. I prefer historical dramas.

Story might not be new but the way it was presented was attractive, at least it attracts me to look forward to the next episodes and revisiting old episodes. I am also impressed with the two leads' chemistry. I didn't know much about OYS but she is making me liking her character in this drama.
lizalizyFeb 03 2015 9:13 am i think its one of those drama which is meant to sit back and enjoy and forget it its definitely nothing new but you shouldnt put too much brain into it too ..........................and whats a hit in one country depends on its cultural background i remember this megahit show ran like 8 yrs in my country which was not so much a hit among those of us living in states so if shine or go crazy is hit in korea doesnt necesarily mean its a hit in china or japan or phillipines or states just because healer has poor ratings in korea doesnt mean its any less loved internationally its just that we all have different tastes

brianFeb 02 2015 12:11 pm the shining moment of the drama whenever lee honey is on screen she is beautiful(even more than the leading lady) and ice cold she more impressive than the lead. but even more surprising is lim ju hwan is 2nd most prettiest thing in the drama (again more pretty than the leading lady) he looks way too much pretty and feminine they need to fix that hair else i am going to korea with a pair of scissors cut it off and paste it on his hairless face!!!!

He's a very physical actor/comedian, so if you like this style, you'll love this. I adore him, so it works for me. It's a strong cast all around and so far (into 4 episodes) the writing is good, dialog entertaining. I'm not seeing anything exceptional about the camerawork or anything else. Let's hope it holds up. I predict that Jang Hyuk will die at the end, because nobody does better death scenes that he does. ;) Just as long as he survives to do another drama!

If you've seen Slave Hunter(Chuno) the last episode i think where he is about to die the acting there is one of the best ive senn any korean actor do if you dont believe me go see for yourself. Jang Hyuk is a superb actor and he played Wang So so well. ReWatch the drama before you start dissing Jang Hyuk

Jung Hyuk is an amazing actor... hmm probably there are similarities with the way he acts from his previous drama but he's NO acting-like-a-new-actor thinh. You will see that he has a very good depth of acting based from his eyes expression and for a veteran actor like him, i know that he studied his character well before the camera rolls... I will continue watching this drama :)

Clarkdale44Jan 22 2015 2:29 am Not sure about this drama, first of all its been a while since i last watched any Korean drama, in fact this is my first drama which is historical, so the only reason i watched this because the plot seemed interesting also because of the main leads. Oh Yeon-Seo doing a perfect job at maintaining her comedy and emotional balance, while no offense but Jang Hyuk seems like acting for the first time. But again this is not unusual that any actor is not good in the beginning of the series. I just hope he improves to the character he is playing as the drama progresses, i liked the first two episodes due to the main two leads also the storyline looks quite conspirative and romantic. If it is then i am in for it. Again i just hope its not one of those dramas which goes for about 50+ episodes.

It's the first episode and sure, it wasn't the greatest first episode but in general... the first episode doesn't say much about the drama itself. Very often the first couple episode don't interest me much but after that, I get really into the story! So far though, I found this episode rather amusing so I'll definitely keep watching!
Also to the people saying that Jang Hyuk is putting too much of Lee Gun in his character, I have to disagree. Fated to love you was a huge drama and Lee Gun was a very distinct character with a bit of an odd laugh. Wang So also has a side like this to him but not as much as Lee Gun. It's sad that people don't seem to be able to difference that.

SoraJan 03 2015 8:31 am @M If you'd like, to add to your list of dramas to watch in 2015 I recommend another drama to watch called Kill Me Or Heal Me coming out on January 7th where Ji Sung is the lead actor and Hwang Jung Eum is the lead actress. Both of them starred alongside each other as well as leads in the drama Secret, which is also another awesome drama I must say! I already have a few lists of expecting dramas to watch in 2015! Can't wait!

He could play the role of silly, arrogant, sad, caring, love, loss, jealousy, longing for a lover, and respectful in FTLY. The deepening of his role as LG are very successful. Oh Yeon Seo so beautiful and precious, and gave a great performance as well! Great chemistry between them in this series. It was a great cast of characters and their performances was excellent as well! The plot was great! I’ve seen over 98 series up to now, and have not seen a plot like this. Funny, action, romance and sadness, but for some of us, it was a good ending but not for others. Will definitely watch it again. Loved it!

Park Min Dec 09 2023 8:19 am Ignore the ending, the prologue itself was appalling and distasteful enough to eliminate my expectations despite the drama having Jang Hyuk on deck. Speaking of which, once again, Jang Hyuk is playing the same character from The Slave Hunters (2010), if you've seen that one then you know what's up. Characters, while initially intriguing, suffered from inconsistent development. The pacing felt uneven, with moments of rushed storytelling followed by prolonged and uneventful sequences, disrupting the overall momentum of the show. The whole poison plot was painful to tolerate and sit through. The story was so terrible it just kept getting worse with every episode. The last 4 episodes in particular were poorly planed, marking them as the worst part of the drama. Once again, Jang Hyuk wasn't enough to save this drama although he was the only highlight.

Elvera Sep 14 2023 9:55 am Oh I love the actor Jang Hyuk and some of the other character actors that I'm familiar with I must say this was definitely a fairy tale. It was overacted some of the dialogue just didn't make sense I mean when premier Wang makes the statement "you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube"you have to know the script got away without anybody really glossing over it I was laughing at some of it although it was supposed to be serious. Overacted underwhelmed and cannot compare with the rest of the great historical dramas Korea has produced

There's no doubt I loved the ending to the point where we see Shin Yule doesn't die, I thought great ending, but the abrupt switch where she says she's leaving her only love Prince Soe, my mouth dropped, "what the...?". But I was ok, Shin Yule (I loved Oh Yeon-Seo here, Jang Bori, and Here Comes Mr Oh)was terrific. The all time worse kdrama ending was Youth of May where FL dies, I still can't over that one. Although I liked Jumong better, this was good...there's laughter (early episodes) and tears (later episodes), worth watching.

Coreen Apr 30 2022 9:52 pm Read someone didn't like the ending of this drama and therefore wanted to give the drama a very low rating. Someone else (or the same person) thought it contained a lot of politics. It's not very much politics compared to other 45+ episodes dramas.
I think the ending may be feasible considering the female lead is a fictional person among real historical persons.

Those idiots sway and swing the camera from one side to another every second! They focus on one eye or half a face and then swing the camera to the opposite direction!!! They focus on half of an ear thousands of times, and the viewer has no clue whose half an ear or an eye it is. So this drama is about EARS! Every second they zoom in creating a full screen blurring picture so you can't see anything. And I am not mentioning the breaking up sound, which is like low tone screeching from a deep well or a tunnel! What are trying to create???!!! The screenplay that makes a viewer dizzy in 5 min and quit watching? So you got it! I quit! Send the director and shooting team my Condolences! This Drama Is A Failure! Hugh Failure!

My favourite scene: when wang wook said that: In the line of tradition a First marriage of prince without permission or blessing of king was a death sentence to the couple. When wang wook described this situation to shin yul that moment amazing. I like the wang wook sister yeo won more than female lead.

I wonder who's write-up is more credible though, the characters' roles in history are so different in both series. Could Moon Lovers be more accurate since they had a license to history? Will I believe so, Wang So's/Gwangjong's story in Moon Lovers is a lot closer to the history books.

Even in Moon lovers, King Wang Soo was the lead, same goes for this drama too... King Wang Soo as the lead.

Although the ending was okay, there was too much of a gap and sense of missing something for me. Maybe it needed another few episodes to further develop the ending. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this drama. Great characters and great acting. I'll have to give it some more thought, but this is probably about #5 on my historical list (Empress Ki, Prince of Lan Ling, SungKyungKwan Scandal, Chuno, Shine or go Crazy...). Good work to everyone involved!

I feel the ratings this drama is less. The 9th episode still gives me goosebumps when I watch it again. I agree that they should have made the last two episodes more actionable , probably the budget was in question. I recommend everyone to watch this drama and support it to extreme extent.

Aj Aug 14 2015 10:31 pm Jang Hyuk is warm, funny, romantic, charismatic, and simply wonderful in one of his best performances. Now of course there are the too-often used KDrama stereotypes of evil, obsession, triangles, class struggles, etc. but what makes this one so interesting (as KDrama has been exploring in several series) is the gentle exploration of gender identity and love being the recognition of the kindred spirit despite confusions. The two leads are extraordinary and have terrific chemistry. The finale is not a typical one, but is satisfying in the context of deep love, independence, responsibility, separate paths reuniting, and the promise of Fate. Beautiful series.

bluelysia Jul 14 2015 12:07 pm (spoiler alert) I really love this drama, and while I have known that Jang Hyuk is a great actor, it brings me light for Oh Yeonseo, who is also brilliant for her character <3 For the ending, because of I had read that so many people dissatisfied with the ending, I thought Shin Yool will be dead, which thank godness, she didn't die!!!! that alone is enough to make me happy because all the time, I have prepared my heart for her death LOL.. she maybe not become the queen, but I think that's what best for both of them.. Shin Yool must be happy for living her life to the fullest after succesfully escaping her "coldness" death.. and I believe at the end, Wang So and Shin Yool reunited at heavens.. so beautiful and good drama!

Weirdos May 29 2015 3:28 am Hmm. I remember I watched Iljimae a couple of years back, and that series by far had the worst ending. I felt as if someone had just pressed the "Off" button on the remote control without warning. It truly felt like being left alone on an open shore with nowhere to turn and all lights turned off in a split-second. So, some of you might be right that somehow, some of the best series are suddenly wrapped and cut short all too quickly. Most likely due to a shortage on funding to keep it going. Even though one could easily read between the lines and visualize the narrators intended ending in Shine or Go Crazy - it would still be nice to be given the actual footage on screen since this clearly was not an open-ending. Say, a mere two days more of filming would have wrapped this one up for good indeed. That really would have been perfect :)
On a different note, most of these series are either too melancholic where the hero (sometimes along with the heroinne) dies, or - they live happily (clichélike) ever after ... which in reality is very unlikely. If you like those kind of series - then stay away from this one and choose some Hollywood teen-chick-flick instead.
That being said, I have to admit that the story was so enticing that I felt a bit sad seeing Wang So age to an old man that quickly. Especially since his final speech as a King (the final battle scene) really gave me goosebumps. Nonetheless, dragging the story for longer (how he was as a King etc.) would definitely have ruined the entire script.
And the reason why I emphasized on this series not being a fantasy was for this reason only - that people shouldn´t believe the IMDB or other websites who claim it´s a "fairytale". It really is not. The series has a strong seriousness to it. The laws, principles, codes and honours that the Kings Emperors and Nobles lived by in ancient civilizations were a serious thing, and it was extremely well portrayed in this serie. Prince Wang So, his brother - the King, the Princess from Balhae - none of them (despite their royalty) could do whatever they wanted "just" because they were royal. We see these kind of things in cultures in some parts of the world even today. People who are at a crossroad and are forced to make a choice - either to their own selfish gain, or for "the greater good". Keeping and maintaining your identity in life means you have to take responsibility. The greater the name, the greater responsibility - hence (in often cases) the greater the sacrifice. Arranged marriages as a sacrifice for the "greater good" is a pretty common thing even today. And whether your sacrifice (of being with the one you love) is an act of heroism (as in the case of Wang So), or an act of cowardice (according to modern thinking) is of course up for debate. I personally loved Wang So´s choice of shining as a King, but going crazy for his love. It gave the story more depth as it was more realistic. :)
So, in overall - I was happy with the ending. Well done and a special kudos to the actor that played Wang So. He´s great.
kirk t. May 24 2015 10:01 pm Worst ending ever! After all they endure to find happiness together, as soon as they achieve the goal. ..she leaves? And never returns? ? And why? So she can go be super-business woman rather than helping him heal an entire nation. This ending is almost as bad as "The Gu Family Book". This must be a cultural thing I don't understand as a Westerner: the idea that people are not allowed to enjoy a happy ending together after earning it. It was so disappointing to spend 23 episodes on this and wind up with nothing but some kind of vague promise of meeting in the afterlife. Makes me want to go back to watching network TV. :(
CgT May 20 2015 7:36 pm We watched it every Monday & Tuesday on LA 18.3 : Very entertaining for the whole family. That's what I appreciate about most of the KDrama we've seen so far; even kids can watch and learn something about a another culture, customs & traditions especially with period/historical drama. Very good production and all the actors did an excellent job: starting with the our favorite, Jang Hyuk ( excellent acting : my husband & I enjoyed watching him team up with Jang Na Ra) , the ladies: Kebong (funny and pretty) , Yeowan (Lee Ha Nui's very convincing yet not hysterical acting! She's really good and pretty also!), Baekmyo ( fiercely loyal : we really like her!). The other male actors were also very good in portraying their respective roles: the veteran & character actors were excellent in their supporting roles especially the villain. Prince Wook was cute but so was Gilbok ! Costume (the hair pieces look natural) & set design were also commendable.

If so It would've been better if yool died because of the illness 'cause there's no point at all I meant they could've been together maybe as a concubine or second wife. He needs to focus on this first before love.. And Gaebong knows this that is why she has to temporarily vanish.. It was a happy ending i should say. This is still one of my favorite drama.. I love the story and the cast..

I found the continuity lacking. - dropped the ball - Jolted me out of the fictive dream. And the ending - well - I wasn't at the writer's conference but had I been - Shin Yool having sought the Prince of Goryeo for years, finally the way is cleared and she rides off into the sunset - her back to everything she wanted. And the Prince - second verse same as the first. Heads up, writers. Why wouldn't the vanquished wife - Yeo Won - pack up and leave in disgrace with the lover/shadow she had on the side? The law of first royal marriages having been repealed...(fit right in with the disclaimer) let the lovers lead the country to a glorious renewal? Is that so hard? It's all there. Just one more word - a word of praise for Kim Sun-Young, who played the guardian of the Princess of Balhae - Baek-Myo I tip my hat to you, lady. Magnificent job.
Eun Jung Apr 24 2015 8:35 am @Weirdos - Good observations about Prince Wang So! I like your comments. The reason I watched Shine or Go Crazy is because Jang Hyuk is in it. I saw him in Chuno and have loved him ever since. I do not like the final 20 minutes of this drama. I think the writer could have taken creative liberties, since there always was a disclaimer that it didn't follow true historical events. Since the writer/director decided to end the love story so terribly (in my opinion), the least the writer/director could have done was to spend a little more time on Wang So's coronation ceremony. Highlighting the coronation more than they did could have left somewhat of a celebratory feeling at the end. It has been two weeks since I finished this drama. This is a drama that stands out and is memorable to me because of Jang Hyuk's role. The ending has not made me dislike the drama. I like the first 23 and 1/2 episodes very much. My opinion that the ending is the worst I have ever seen will not change.

The thing I like about this one here is the role of Prince Wang So. The actor who played that role was simply exceptional. He was captivating - and I was very surprised because I have never seen that kind of role being portrayed so impeccably. You could see a red thread throughout the whole series in his characters. He was playing the role of the royal abandoned and exiled son by his father who was the King, the cursed and murderous/traiterous son accused by his mother (and the palace/people), the goofy and carefree commoner who grew up alone in the mountains somewhere, the mysterious but extremely skillfull swordsman, the beggar with no manners, the royal Prince Wang So who the Nobles looked down upon, the brother to the lonely and scared King who he still loves even though the King suspects him for deceiving him and trying to steal the throne, the 'veiling' affectionate character for his nations unfortunate people who suffer daily, and last but not least the finally Heir to the throne as the King who will eventually claim the power back from the corrupted Nobles.
What´s magnificent is that I see this red thread of how loyal, affectionate, stern, determined, strong, full of Royal charisma and passionate character he is in all of these unique roles he portrays. And his signature in all of these are the comforting words- ''That everything will be alright''. Despite the agonizing and painful events that occure throughout the series - when you see him in any of his characters - you strongly feel those words: That everything will be alright. Mindblowing acting and script. The actor didn´t give us one character - he gave us a handful of them - and all of them shared one and same goal. Be with the woman he loves - and take the power from the Nobles and give it back to the people of Goryeo. I watched all 24 episodes mostly because of this actors skills.
As an end quote - most people who didn´t like this series or hated the ending did not fully understand it. The series main genre was not romance for the woman (melodramatic romance) - but rather romance (historical) for the future of the nation of Goryeos existence in lightness - not darkness. However, both romances (woman and nation) were in parallell with one-another. The title: Shine or Go Crazy goes for both. He chose to Shine as a King, but had to go crazy for the woman he loves. That´s a happy realistic ending because his call to be a righteous King for the people was greater than his own happiness with a woman. She asked him - would you leave your throne for me. And he did not answer - which means his love and responsibility for his people and nation was infact greater. If he could have both, then he wouldn´t marry her for the second time - also in secrecy. If she came like that to the palace - without a royal marriage - she would be regarded by the people of the palace as the princess who became his concubine. And that would be sad. Her life would only surroud around his life - she, her goals and dreams would cease to exist. The princess had her goals to achieve just like Wang So did. I do not see this as a sad ending - because he can still see her whenever she comes back.
I still think many here wanted unrealistic stories. Even though this is fictional - it´s not a fantasy series. There is a big difference between the two. There was no magic or unreal things. Everything which happened has or could have happened in some parts of the world back in history. After the King dies - his sons would inheir the throne - so it´s natural to think that his sons with the woman he loves would be illegitimate - and that would bring more pain and jealousy amongst his children. The serie deserves high praise - especially due to the main character, Wang So. :)

The writer could have taken liberties to create a satisfying end, but chose not to. Unless viewers are native South Koreans, they probably do not know Korean history and cannot be expected to look up historical events prior to watching historical dramas. It is great to become educated while watching a drama, but since viewers are probably watching because they like entertainment, it is very understandable why the ending of this drama was disappointing to the majority of viewers. There was no foundation in the drama to prepare viewers for the abrupt, choppy end.

If you google 'wang so korean history' you would realize that Shin Yool is a fictional character that was created by the writers as one that inspired Wang So to make many changes in the Goryeo period during his rule.
The writers drew us in wonderfully as they portrayed their beautiful relationship. Disappointing ending (for the heart) but an expected one.
Bravo to the writer for their ability to create such a mesmerizing story and evoke such strong emotions among their viewers!
Nae Apr 13 2015 1:19 am SMH at all these fans upset Yeo Won became Queen and was by Wang So's side in the end. They can't even accept those 3 children were Wang So and Yeo Won's children. They can't believe Wang So had sex with Yeo Won. They need to face the fact he did. I was not a fan any couple but I did like the characters individually. The hate for Yeo Won is so real. The ending was a little messy because Shin Yool could have stayed but lived outside the Palace. Overall Shine or Go Crazy was Good. All the actors and actresses did an amazing job.

I am puzzled as to why, after so much work to make a great drama, did those in charge decide to end the drama the way they did? The drama was ruined because of the last 20 minutes. Jang Hyuk is talented. I won't regret the hours I spent watching him act. I like all of his work. The way the drama ended is a disappointment. I feel bad for the actors and others who worked hard to make this a great drama. Some poor decisions were made on how to end this drama and subsequently ruined the chance for this to be a good drama.

JC Apr 10 2015 3:31 pm I loved this drama so much, really couldn't stop watching it. Already a huge fan of Jang Hyuk so his character was so fun as always. It was great seeing Oh Yeon Seo again after Jang Bori, her acting is amazing and she was so beautiful!
Though I have to agree that the ending felt very lacking and rushed so that was pretty disappointing since the drama did a great job building up both the story and romance. That aside I will still remember this drama as a very memorable journey that I enjoyed very much.

They had to build Yool's brother character making the viewers like him and for them to be together or at least they'll know that they are related, unfortunately the writers decided to just kill his character. Now that was a total disappointment. And the ending? The last 5 mins was a total waste of the viewers time, I don't understand how the writers thought that it's better for them to part ways. Yool spent years to find her lost husband, now that they can finally be together she left him with another woman and broke his heart. Why can't the writers just make the viewers feel light at heart? I mean we've been watching it since episode 1 and eagerly waiting for the next episode week after week. All your efforts go down since episode 1 goes down in the toilet just in 5 minutes. wow this reminds me of HIMYM ending.

One of the best Kdramas I've ever seen....Jang Hyuk is always brilliant and the cast as a whole was top rate. But once again a great drama is ruined by a bad and sloppy ending. South Korea produces some amazing television but for some reason most directors/writers never know how to end the dang show.

One thing i noticed different about this drama is the sets the colors are all jewel tones ,, very very pretty as most historical sets are but I'm really enjoying this one. And the Costumes. I hope for a happy ending but that rarely happens in a Kdrama with out some kinda sacrificial lamb paying a price.... BUT really good drama And I have watched now over years at least a 150 plus... So I gave it a chance and I'm SO glad I did! Usually the ratings on this site is pretty spot on but now I'm starting to second think them. I have watched and enjoyed JHyuk dramas/movies with Jang NaRa and Lee Dae Hae. Hyuk is handsome and talented actor and he's lucky to be paired with these beautiful and talented ladies (and of course having the good production, the excellent job of director, writer, cinematography and what I really appreciate more is the soundtrack/film scoring that makes me really feel the scenes and I have only experienced these wonderful background music with Korean Dramas/movies).
Hope to see Jang Hyuk and Oh Yeon Seo again in a new drama series in the future..

Female characters have strong roles/backgrounds and are smart including the protectors of the kings. Jang Hyuk is stellar as always with his athletic and swordmanship skills. I look forward to this drama each week since it is not too easy to predict the next crisis.

Shine is not a heavy historical drama. It just meant to be a romantic comedy, light, funny, and does need to have the set, production, lighting to be perfect for viewers to enjoy it. It just merely want to entertain with all its cheesiness and overly exaggerated love reaction of the female lead. Shine may not be the best but at the end of the day, a lot of viewers are loving it and Shine has the rating to prove it.. You may choose to hate it or love it.. I chose to love it..

panama Feb 12 2015 12:27 am the story has not been consistent it loses its momentum every now and then may thats why people have been complaining. i dont get the concept of being a hyper happy puppet as a symbolism of a confident person the depiction should be more subtle yes iam talking about the actress she ends up looking like a loonie with those eyes overtly dilated like a deer caught in headlight,the only curiosity ppl have "will he know she is a she and not he......will they kiss again?? when thats all there is to story obviously there is loss of interest as you can gauge from the comments when there are so many drama around with such intriguing plots there are people who will want to invest time in better drama plots !!!!!!

DramaYes Feb 07 2015 4:46 am Jang Hyuk acts the character in every comedy and this is no exception! That loud talking and signature laugh will make you hate him or love him. I chose to love him because he is predictable and makes me laugh! I have seen his serious side and excellent fighting skills in previous dramas. So, I know he is not one-dimensional. So far, the script is good, but, not great. I will continue to watch anyway.

Right now, her role means that she is never really 'herself' as a woman, as somebody's wife, ..she is the COO and CFO of the company, she is a drinking partner and teacher to Wang So, she is the unknown princess who is mothered by a emotional albeit loving 'mother/ servant'. I harbor hope that the matter- of- fact way she speaks is reflective of these roles, rather than she is a poor actress mouthing her lines without emotion. In many instances, I like her, when she shows that she is kinda fearless, brave and smart. Sometimes though, I wish that she would not open her eyes so wide, like a deer caught in the headlights.

Lee Feb 05 2015 3:52 am I know the story and parts can just sound a bit silly and unrealistic but there is something very attractive about the character Wang So. His loneliness comes through. He has only one purpose in his life I.e. To avenge his father. Nobody has ever had a conversation about his life or cared for his well being or to encourage him to think of higher purposes and aims except for 'Gaebo'.. The character is intelligent and charismatic except he just behaved according to the people he was with. Anyway, now his apparently idiotic facade is blown amongst his enemies, so it will be interesting to see what is going to happen next. OYS is ok..partly because it is hard to see her disguised as a man with her features and voice. But who knows, she may get better. First time that I am watching Jang Hyuk act and he is very good.. Who else can play this character..stupid, funny, intelligent, charismatic, physical fighter and driven, all rolled into one.
julien Feb 05 2015 2:21 am guessing from the writing style some fangirl or boy is spamming the section with comments......anywayz my honest opinion after watching ep 6 today..the politics in this drama is ver dull not smart enuf,the action scenes such as chasing sword fighting are also not impressive there is a certain amount of discontinuity in scenes they are cut paste and its obvious,jokes right out of 101 and one lame jokes in history of cinema,set and production value below par lighting also not good with only cheap cgi..........chemistry comes when story line is strong right the story has taken sideline or rather very plain.......................its my complete unbiased opinion coz i am fairly new to korean sageuks(having watched tree with deep roots and emperor of sea) though i have watched plenty of great chinese sageuks

Not sure how his modern kdramas are since i dont watch them. I prefer historical dramas.

He's a very physical actor/comedian, so if you like this style, you'll love this. I adore him, so it works for me. It's a strong cast all around and so far (into 4 episodes) the writing is good, dialog entertaining. I'm not seeing anything exceptional about the camerawork or anything else. Let's hope it holds up. I predict that Jang Hyuk will die at the end, because nobody does better death scenes that he does. ;) Just as long as he survives to do another drama!

Jang Hyuk is a superb actor and he played Wang So so well. ReWatch the drama before you start dissing Jang Hyuk

Jung Hyuk is an amazing actor... hmm probably there are similarities with the way he acts from his previous drama but he's NO acting-like-a-new-actor thinh. You will see that he has a very good depth of acting based from his eyes expression and for a veteran actor like him, i know that he studied his character well before the camera rolls... I will continue watching this drama :)

bellair Jan 22 2015 11:42 pm real mature one the one below me if your fav actor is getting bashed lets bash someone else to feel better this section is meant for both positive and negative opinions if you cant digest it dont read that said jang hyuk is my fav but yes he is not at his best yet the drama is certainly not off to the best start but if you have patience then certainly story has yet to unfold and definitely worth a try but nothing promising yet

Btw, if y'all happen to be weighing this against the other new drama starring Hyun Bin and Han Ji Min (ahem), then that's complete daft bulls***. Clarkdale44 Jan 22 2015 2:29 am Not sure about this drama, first of all its been a while since i last watched any Korean drama, in fact this is my first drama which is historical, so the only reason i watched this because the plot seemed interesting also because of the main leads. Oh Yeon-Seo doing a perfect job at maintaining her comedy and emotional balance, while no offense but Jang Hyuk seems like acting for the first time. But again this is not unusual that any actor is not good in the beginning of the series. I just hope he improves to the character he is playing as the drama progresses, i liked the first two episodes due to the main two leads also the storyline looks quite conspirative and romantic. If it is then i am in for it. Again i just hope its not one of those dramas which goes for about 50+ episodes.

anna Jan 21 2015 1:12 pm i like the 2 episodes but i am not sure if it will be a rating giant unlike jang hyuks other two sageuks.keep up the effort jang hyuk we love you i get it when people feel similarity b/w lee gun and wangso because its very evident on the face but then may be we will have to wait for scripwriters to reveal more on his character i like the entire cast of sogc except OYS somehow never liked her i will continue watching it for jang hyuk though

It's the first episode and sure, it wasn't the greatest first episode but in general... the first episode doesn't say much about the drama itself. Very often the first couple episode don't interest me much but after that, I get really into the story! So far though, I found this episode rather amusing so I'll definitely keep watching!
Also to the people saying that Jang Hyuk is putting too much of Lee Gun in his character, I have to disagree. Fated to love you was a huge drama and Lee Gun was a very distinct character with a bit of an odd laugh. Wang So also has a side like this to him but not as much as Lee Gun. It's sad that people don't seem to be able to difference that.

nur Jan 20 2015 5:25 am no! disagree with all bad comments. this drama is so good! it is a bit comical yet a very good 1. and yes indeed it is a high budget drama. even ailed sings for this drama. watch again if u don't trust me. jang hyuk is a very good actor. don't under estimate him. watch again. he is very versatile actor.
fringe Jan 20 2015 5:23 am i wouldnt say this drama is bad but its not "interesting" possibly too early in the drama to say anything.i will give it a try though only for the male lead.there definitely is something off about the drama not strong plotline to compete with the other two drama in the same timeline as for the comment below me its just that people have their own individual opinion which may not be same as yours

And she was so refreshing! Hope to see more and more interaction between the two main characters in the future!

Sora Jan 03 2015 8:31 am @M If you'd like, to add to your list of dramas to watch in 2015 I recommend another drama to watch called Kill Me Or Heal Me coming out on January 7th where Ji Sung is the lead actor and Hwang Jung Eum is the lead actress. Both of them starred alongside each other as well as leads in the drama Secret, which is also another awesome drama I must say! I already have a few lists of expecting dramas to watch in 2015! Can't wait!

He could play the role of silly, arrogant, sad, caring, love, loss, jealousy, longing for a lover, and respectful in FTLY. The deepening of his role as LG are very successful. Only petty people who say he didn't act well in FTLY.
